February Gardening Tips

Seasonal Updates

February is a great month to begin preparing for the spring season approaching, bulbs will begin to appear. This is the perfect time to start pruning certain shrubs and climbers, as the garden begins to come to life again.

Our top tips this month include:

Start preparation for vegetable seed beds and begin to sow.

Chit potato tubers allowing them to begin sprouting before you plant.

Protect the blossom on soft fruit trees such as nectarine, peaches, and apricots as they may be vulnerable to frost, and need protection.

Protect fruit and vegetables with nets to prevent birds causing crop damage.

Begin pruning wisteria, overgrown hedges and winter-flowering shrubs to encourage strong shoots.

Towards the end of the month, start cutting back deciduous ornamental grass, cutting them back to the base to allow new growth
